Lincoln, IL – In the last Region 24 game of the year, the LC men’s soccer defeated the Heartland Hawks 3-0.
The first half was tough to find the back of the net for the Lynx. Heartland sat back and played a 4-5-1 defense and had all of their players behind the ball. Lincoln College head coach Ben Massena said, “I thought we did a good job at playing east to west to try to open up channels to play into.” Despite hitting the post twice and the Hawks’ keeper making eight saves, the Lynx were able to find the back of the net when Kevin Lopez drilled a ball past the keeper as time ran out at half.
Massena went on to say, “I’m happy with how the boys played their last Region game of the year. It is the third Region game in a row that we scored 3+ goals and that shows we are starting to play as a unit. It’s good to peak in late October and I feel we are on the right track to go far in playoffs.”
“At half time we talked about letting them have the ball a bit to open up some space for us and to play more into the flanks and look for crosses to the top of the box instead of into the 6”, Massena said. “Things worked out perfect as we were able to score twice more and control the whole game. This is the third straight Region game where everyone on the team played and gave quality minutes.
Lincoln takes on Kansas Technical College at home on Monday, October 14 at 2:00pm.
