LC Men’s Soccer Pick Up Two Wins at The Parkland Kick for the Cure

September 3, 2013

Lincoln vs. Illinois Wesleyan JV

Lincoln College defeated Illinois Wesleyan JV by a score  of 6-1 in the Parkland Kick for the Cure Showcase.   Lincoln opened up the game with a quick goal in the 2 minute of the game when freshman Ben Frogner slotted a ball across the box to Eddy Milien who scored the easy tap in goal.  Lincoln had the majority of possession through the first half but despite scored 4 goals gave IWU an easy goal when Ibrahima Mbaye tackled a IWU player inside the box. IWU capitalized on this and at half time the score was 4-1.  We talked at half at controlling the tempo of the game and not giving up easy looks at our goal. The boys did great at this second half and the game ended 6-1

Goals by:
Eddy Milien (3)
Ben Frogner 1
Jose Barralaga 1
Peter Niederer 1

Assists:

Lincoln vs. North Iowa Community College

Lincoln Took on NIACC on Sunday on the 2nd day of the Parkland Kick for the Cure Showcase.  Lincoln wore Pink uniforms in honor of #11 Peter Niederer’s mother who lost her battle with cancer in 2008.  We knew going into the game that NIACC was going to be a tough game for us. We are 0-1 in the history of playing them and their style of play is tough to play against.  We talked a lot to the guys about keeping the play simple, fast, and not changing the way we play.  The guys came out on fire scoring in the 3rd minute of the match when Peter Niederer took a corner kick and found Eddy Milien who headed the ball past a diving keeper.   Lincoln would find the back of the net in the 17th minute when Eliceo Gonazales beat two defenders and hit a streaking low cross that Ben Frogner crushed to the far post to put the Lynx up 2-0.  At half time we made some adjustments to make sure we kept pressure on them and continued to move our attack further up the field.   We really wanted to get in behind their back four and find our outside midfielders a bit more to open up the middle of the field.  The boys responded very well and we were able to get two more goals from Eddy Milien with both assists coming from outside midfielder Jose Barralaga.   I’m very pleased with the performance of the guys in this match and over the weekend.  It’s tough to play two games in two days and think our hard work all preseason really showed today.   The Lynx ended with 24 shots while allowing NIACC no shots on goal.  Our guys really came out and pressed NIACC all over the field.  I’m happy with our progression so far and hope we continue to improve as a team as we move forward into region games.

Next game is Sept. 12 vs region 24 opponent Lewis and Clark
