LC Men’s Soccer Advance in Region 24 Tournament with Win over ICC
October 28, 2013
Notes from Coach Massena:
Lincoln College defeated Illinois Central College in a penalty Shootout to advance in the Region 24 tournament.
Despite having 15 corner kicks and 12 shots on goal Lincoln was unable to score a goal. ICC ended up with 3 corner kicks and 6 shots on goal. Lincoln had several chances in the first half that were cleared off the line by ICC players and despite having several very good looks at goal the half time score was 0-0. We were very displeased on how we didn’t get the ball into the net. This is the time of the year you can’t waste chances And we did. ICC would come out the second half with the wind and pressed hard. Lincoln’s centermid would receive a second yellow and Lincoln would have to play the last 20 minutes of regulation a man down. ICC was awarded a Penalty late in the game but goalie Daniel Martinez came up big making the save. In OT both teams had good looks at goal but neither could score ending the game 0-0 in. 2 OTs.
In the penalty shootout Daniel Martinez came up big again stopping one PK and throwing off the ICCs players to help us win 3-1 in the shootout.
Lincoln advances to the semi-final vs Lincoln Land at 2 pm Wednesday, October 30.
